Ha, Ha! So true. We planted an artichoke plant last Spring. It only has one artichoke on it. I'm planning on eating some and letting the others bloom. Now I know why artichokes are so expensive in the store... they take forever!

Amazingly, this plant has had about 20 artichokes on it (4 harvested for dinner). But, once I let a couple start to open, even the small ones started opening...my lesson: make sure to harvest all the early ones, let the later ones be landscape blooms.
